Automechanika pertama kali diselenggarakan di Frankfurt pada 1971, sebagai pengganti dari International Motor Show (IAA) yang batal diselenggarakan pada tahun tersebut akibat krisis ekonomi. Pada tahun perdananya lebih dari 400 pelaku bisnis turut serta dan dengan berjalannya waktu, jumlah ini terus meningkat. Dan kini jumlah peserta sudah meningkat hingga sepuluh kali lipatnya.
Seiring dengan perkembangan industri otomotif semakin pesat, Automechanika juga turut berkembang dan menambahkan lokasi baru di penjuru dunia sejak tahun 1990-an. Bekerjasama dengan 160 partner, supporter dan asosiasi dari sektor otomotif, Messe Frankfurt saat ini telah berhasil menyelenggarakan Automechanika di 16 negara di lima benua. Dengan total 17 seri Automechanika, masing – masing telah disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan regionalnya. Selain pameran dagang, acara ini dilengkapi dengan program pendukung seperti, networking events, pelatihan, dan acara pendukung lain yang akan menjadikan Automechanika sebagai tempat yang tepat untuk memperluas jaringan bisnis anda.
